Imazamox Product Description
Product Name: Imazamox
Chemical Group: Imidazolinone
Formulation Types: SL (Soluble Liquid), WG (Water Dispersible Granule), and SC (Suspension Concentrate)
Concentration: Typically available in concentrations like 40 g/L SL or 70% WG, depending on the formulation.
Product Overview
Imazamox is a systemic, selective herbicide from the imidazolinone chemical family, designed to target a wide range of annual and perennial broadleaf weeds and grasses. It is absorbed by the plant’s foliage and roots, and then translocated throughout the plant, effectively inhibiting growth and development.
Mechanism of Action
Imazamox works by inhibiting the enzyme acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS), also known as acetolactate synthase (ALS). This enzyme is essential for the synthesis of branched-chain amino acids like leucine, isoleucine, and valine. Inhibition of this enzyme disrupts protein synthesis and cell division in susceptible plants, leading to growth cessation and eventual plant death. This mode of action allows Imazamox to effectively control many problem weed species without damaging the crop.
Application and Crop Suitability
Imazamox is suitable for use in a variety of leguminous and cereal crops, including:
Soybeans: Provides effective control of many annual broadleaf weeds and grasses that compete with soybeans for resources, promoting better crop establishment and growth.
Peanuts: Selectively targets problem weeds like pigweed, foxtail, and lambsquarters while ensuring the safety of the peanut crop.
Sunflower: Ideal for use in Clearfield® sunflower systems, enabling the management of tough-to-control broadleaf and grassy weeds without affecting the sunflower.
Dry Beans and Peas: Ensures excellent weed management in beans and peas, with good selectivity and crop safety.
Rice: Particularly useful in Clearfield® rice systems to control red rice, barnyard grass, and other weed species that reduce rice yield and quality.
Alfalfa: Safe for use in established alfalfa stands to control various grasses and broadleaf weeds, enhancing overall crop vigor and yield potential.
