Buprofezin is a high-activity, high-selectivity insect growth regulator that inhibits insect molting by disrupting chitin synthesis and metabolism. It is effective against planthoppers, leafhoppers, and whiteflies, and is used on crops such as rice, potatoes, citrus, cotton, and vegetables.
Introduction to Buprofezin
Buprofezin is an insect growth regulator that functions as a molting inhibitor by disrupting chitin synthesis and interfering with the insect’s metabolism, leading to gradual death. It is characterized by its high activity, high selectivity, and long residual effect. Buprofezin is particularly effective against planthoppers, leafhoppers, and whiteflies, and also has good efficacy against certain scale insects such as the citrus mealybug and the long-tailed mealybug. It is primarily used for controlling rice leafhoppers and planthoppers, potato leafhoppers, and whiteflies in citrus, cotton, and vegetables.
Application and Efficacy
For controlling brown planthoppers in rice, Buprofezin should be applied during the peak egg hatching period or when young nymphs are prevalent. Use a 25% wettable powder at a dosage of 3-4.5 grams per 100 square meters, mixed with water, and spray on the main activity and damage sites of the pests. This treatment can also control white-backed planthoppers and leafhoppers. For controlling green leafhoppers, black spiny whiteflies, and citrus rust mites in tea, apply a 750-1500 times dilution of the 25% wettable powder during the non-harvest period and early insect stages. Note that Buprofezin is sensitive to crops like cabbage and radish, so caution is advised during application.
