The effectiveness of aluminum phosphide in controlling pests makes it a valuable tool in preserving stored products and protecting them from damage caused by various pests.
aluminum phosphide 56 Mode of Action
Aluminum phosphide 56 is typically used as a broad-spectrum fumigant pesticide. Specifically, it is primarily employed to fumigate stored product pests in warehouses, various pests in enclosed spaces, storage pests of grains and seeds, as well as outdoor rodents in burrows. Upon application, when aluminum phosphide comes into contact with moisture, it immediately produces highly toxic phosphine gas. Subsequently, this gas enters the insects’ (or rodents’) bodies through their respiratory systems, where it acts on the respiratory chain and cytochrome oxidase within the cell mitochondria, thereby inhibiting normal respiration and ultimately causing death.
Interestingly, in anaerobic environments, phosphine is not easily inhaled by insects and thus shows no toxicity. However, in the presence of oxygen, phosphine gas can be readily inhaled, leading to rapid absorption and subsequent insect death. Moreover, at high concentrations, insects exposed to phosphine may exhibit a unique physiological response, such as paralysis or a protective coma, which results in reduced respiration. Nevertheless, despite this temporary response, prolonged exposure to the gas eventually proves fatal to the pests, ensuring effective pest control in the treated area.
Applications
Aluminum phosphide 56 fumigant products can be used to fumigate raw grains, finished grains, oilseeds, and dried potato products. When fumigating seeds, the moisture content required varies depending on the crop. The effectiveness of aluminum phosphide in controlling pests makes it a valuable tool in preserving stored products and protecting them from damage caused by various pests.
