Acetochlor 50 EC offers reliable pre-emergence weed control, particularly against annual grasses. Suitable for a variety of crops, it works by inhibiting protein synthesis in weeds. Explore its application guidelines and benefits.
Acetochlor 50 EC: Effective Pre-Emergence Herbicide
Acetochlor 50 EC is a highly effective pre-emergence herbicide used to control annual grassy weeds and some broadleaf weeds. It is suitable for crops such as corn, cotton, beans, peanuts, potatoes, canola, garlic, tobacco, sunflowers, castor beans, and onions. This herbicide is particularly effective against grassy weeds like crabgrass, foxtail, goosegrass, barnyard grass, Chinese sprangletop, wild oats, annual bluegrass, hardgrass, and crowfootgrass. It also has some efficacy against broadleaf weeds from the Chenopodiaceae, Amaranthaceae, Polygonaceae, Commelinaceae, Caryophyllaceae, and Cuscuta families, although its effectiveness is lower compared to grassy weeds.
Acetochlor mechanism of action
Acetochlor operates as a selective pre-emergence herbicide. It is primarily absorbed through the coleoptile in monocotyledons and the hypocotyl in dicotyledons. After absorption, it is translocated upwards, inhibiting protein synthesis and thereby stopping cell growth. This results in the cessation of growth of weed seedlings and roots, leading to their eventual death. Grassy weeds absorb acetochlor more effectively than broadleaf weeds, making it particularly potent against annual grasses.
