Clodinafop-propargyl is an herbicide that works by inhibiting the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), crucial for fatty acid synthesis in plants. It is absorbed by the leaves and stems of weeds, translocated through the phloem, and accumulates in the meristematic tissues. This inhibition disrupts cell growth and division, ultimately leading to the death of the plant due to the destruction of lipid-containing structures such as membranes.
Features of Clodinafop-Propargyl
Clodinafop-propargyl 15% wp is an excellent herbicide for wheat, rye, and triticale fields, used post-emergence to control annual grassy weeds like wild oats, blackgrass, foxtail, and canary grass. It is highly safe for wheat and can be applied regardless of the wheat’s growth stage, from the two-leaf-one-heart stage to before jointing. The herbicide is effective even at low temperatures, which slows down weed control speed but does not compromise efficacy. Compared to older herbicides like fenoxaprop-p-ethyl, clodinafop-propargyl shows superior performance, especially against resistant weeds. The recommended dosage should not exceed 9g per acre to avoid adverse effects on wheat seedlings.
Clodinafop-Propargyl is a selective post-emergence herbicide used primarily for controlling annual grass weeds in cereal crops like wheat. To enhance its spectrum of weed control and provide broadleaf weed management, it is often mixed with other herbicides. Common combinations include:
- Metribuzin:Clodinafop-Propargyl is frequently combined with metribuzin to provide control of both grass weeds and certain broadleaf weeds in cereal crops.
- Fenoxaprop-P-ethyl:This combination enhances control over a wider range of grass weeds, particularly in wheat and barley fields.
- Tribenuro-Methyl:This mixture improves the control of both grass weeds and specific broadleaf weeds, providing a more comprehensive solution for wheat fields.
- Fluroxypyr:Combining Clodinafop-Propargyl with Fluroxypyr offers control of both grass and broadleaf weeds, expanding the herbicide’s utility in cereal crops
